Halloween Pumpkin Carving

It is that time of year again, or at least it almost is. It is starting to get colder, and the days are starting to get shorter. The leaves are falling off of trees, or at least they are starting to fall. Speaking of fall, it is now fall. Sweatshirts and long pants are now more common than just t-shirts and shorts. Bonfires are better this time of year as well due to the decrease in temperatures as of late. However, one thing that this time of year means is something that many people enjoy a lot. That one thing is Halloween.

Halloween, such a great time, right? Some people would say yes, while some people would say no. However, I think that the majority of people would side with yes rather than siding with no. Halloween entails a lot though. It entails many things. However, Halloween is far away because it is the beginning of October still, or I guess it is about halfway through October now. But still, we have seventeen days until Halloween. That is about two and a half weeks. That is quite a long time still, relatively speaking. However, some things are starting to involve Halloween already. One of those things has to do with big orange globes that we hollow out and carve, and make a decoration out of. That is right, you guessed it, and I am talking about pumpkin carving.

Pumpkin carving has been around for a long time. I believe it started with garlic, set out on the porch in hopes to scare away vampires and keep them from getting into your house. This, however, is completely silly. There is no such thing as vampires. However, people still did that. And over time it changed. It evolved into what it is today. Pumpkin carving evolved from garlic on porches to get rid of vampires and keep them from attacking your home.

Pumpkin carving today is a very enjoyable pastime in October for many people. A lot of people look forward to it. Many things can be used for pumpkin carving. In order to do a basic pumpkin carving, you will need a few supplies. First off, you will need a pumpkin. Not surprisingly, you do actually need a pumpkin in order to participate in pumpkin carving. Make sure it is not too small, and that the pumpkin isn’t too big either. It is a personal opinion on the size of the pumpkin. You will also need a knife. The knife will be used to cut and carve the pumpkin. Another useful tool in pumpkin carving is a big spoon. This will be helpful for gutting the pumpkin and taking out all of the pumpkin seeds and everything else from inside the pumpkin. If you do not want to just dump all of that onto the ground, then a bowl would be helpful to dump it in. Another item that is needed in pumpkin carving is needed for the final product. A candle is needed to be placed in the pumpkin to make it glow at night. You will typically light your carved pumpkin, also known as a Jack O’ Lantern as the finished product, on Halloween night.

Some basic ideas for carving a pumpkin are just faces. A scary face, a smiley face, those are two simple ideas. Just a nose, two eyes, and a mouth. A smiley face for a happy pumpkin, or a frowny face and angry eyes for an angry pumpkin. It is up to you. There are a lot of more ideas out there, but those are two really simple and basic ideas.

Now that it is October, I suggest getting a pumpkin and creating a Jack O’ Lantern. Pumpkin carving is very entertaining, especially if you do it with friends and/or family!
