Fight Club

Entertainment is a very large topic, covering an array of items, things, etc. There are a few staple items, however, that people usually think about when they think of entertainment, especially today’s entertainment, or modern entertainment. A few of those staple entertaining things are music, film, reading, and even more. Today, I am going to write about a movie. This movie that I am going to be writing about is now around sixteen years old. This movie is Fight Club.

Fight Club, as previously states, was released into theatres around sixteen years ago. The release year was nineteen ninety-nine (1999). The movie had two lead actors, Edward Norton and Brad Pitt, with Norton being the more prominent actor, if you will. The movie lasts around two and a half hours, and it is a bit of a thinker movie, as some would say. As the title suggests, the movie has to do with a fight club. Going along with the subject, there are quite a few fights in the film. Even though it is a very good film, in my opinion at least, there is a lot of violence and blood, as well as language and some sexual content. That is why the film is rated R. That being said, a warning before you watch the movie, if you do.

(***WARNING SPOILERS***)

The movie, as stated previously, is kind of about a fight club. An insomniac office worker, Norton, meets a soap salesman, Pitt, and they start a fight club at a bar together. Due to an explosion in his apartment, Norton is forced to move in with Pitt. More and more people start to join their fight club, and they expand it. Also, a girl enters both of their lives, which complicates matters. However, the fight club also expands around the same time. It becomes, as they call it, project mayhem. Project mayhem quickly expands and it soon becomes a small terrorist organization, not causing harm to any people, but instead destroying either stores, buildings, or public pieces or art, such as statues. However, this is all done at night to keep from inflicting any damage upon and hurting anyone. This is when things get weird. (Now, here come the major spoilers, so if you ever want to watch this movie I advise you to stop reading this blog now.) It is revealed that Norton is not just suffering from insomnia. He also has split personality disorder. Pitt is Norton. Norton is Pitt. They are one and the same. While Pitt led project mayhem and fight club, Norton was just imagining it was Pitt while he was the one doing it. While Pitt was involved with the girl, Norton was the person really involved with her, he just thought Pitt was. This means that the big project mayhem event coming up, that “Pitt” planned with everyone, is really in the back of Norton’s mind. Racing against time to try and stop the catastrophe, Norton gets held up multiple times as project mayhem people are all around. However, he ends up in the top of the only skyscraper not to be blown up and destroyed, all alone with Pitt. Up there, multiple things are revealed. Pitt is Norton, or at least who Norton wants to be. Norton hated his old life. Pitt is the guy that Norton wishes he could’ve been. Pitt, from a psychological standpoint, is like Norton’s id. Norton and Pitt standoff, more mentally than physically. Physically, whatever happens to one happens to the other. Norton realizes that there is no way he can call off what is about to happen, and he hates what he has become, or more specifically Pitt, and who Pitt has become. He decides to end it, so he shoots himself in the mouth. He all of a sudden points the gun barrel in his mouth a pulls the trigger. Bam! Pitt is gone. Norton goes limp. Just then the girl and the project mayhem men all come up and see Norton, sitting there, blood gushing out his head and down his body. It is revealed Norton shot through his cheek, not killing him, but causing himself a severe amount of pain. He then holds hands with the girl, and they watch all the skyscrapers explode around the city. Together.

Fight Club is a very good movie. A very big thinker too. There are many different aspects and layers to it. All in all, it is a very entertaining movie and I highly recommend to watch it.

Wow! Look at that parabola!

There is this one kid in Kennedy High School. His name is Brandon Robert Koch, and he actually told me to write this blog about him. What the hell. A good two hundred or so words to waste. So here goes.

Brandon is an interesting kid. Now, I can go into depth about a lot of things about him. His personal life. His school life. His academic life. His athletic life. His religious life. His relationship life. I can go into all of those pretty decently I would say. However, this is an entertainment blog, so I am going to be writing about how Brandon Robert Koch can be very entertaining.

Brandon is pretty weird. He is a white guy that loves to rap. That can be entertaining. He also does back flips. A lot. I have a feeling that if he dies young, it will be from a bad back flip. That is just my prediction though. May not happen at all. Make your own prediction. Also, Brandon plays football and runs track. This makes him athletic, but he is in Happiness so I guess you could say he is well rounded. One instance on how entertaining Brandon is is from the latest football game. At kickoff you could hear him yell, “Wow! Look at that parabola!”

Pets

Hey guys I am back again! Back again with entertainment! Modern entertainment to be exact. Anything that entertains you. Yep. Anything. Last week I wrote about bonfires. More specifically, bonfires in the fall. This week I am going to be writing about something that entertains you, and that something is going to be a pet.

There are many pets out there that people can get. There are dogs. There are cats. There are fish. There are turtles. There are reptiles. There are many types of reptiles. Some reptiles are lizards. Another reptile is a snake. Snakes can be very big or very small. Many pets belong in a cage. Those are mainly small pets. Some of those pets are hamsters. Another example is a gerbil. Reptiles are also like that. Such as turtles. And snakes. And lizards. Fish especially need to be in a cage of some sort. They need to be in a cage with glass walls, like a bowl. It then needs to be filled with water. The pets need to be fed. Do not forget to feed fish. They will die if you forget to feed them. Another thing that will die if you forget to feed it is your motivation. If you do not feed your motivation it will start to die. Such as my motivation to write this blog. I am going to now fill in a lot of random words and sentences more or less. However, this is still entertainment because you are still reading this, and therefore, on some level, probably an unconscious level, this is entertaining to you. So you are welcome kind stranger. Or kind friend. Or kind person. That is, if I know you. Also, if I know you, then hello. How are you doing? I am currently not doing the best, but I have been worse so I can not complain. Wow. Only one hundred or so words to go. Yay.

Back to pets. Dogs are the best pets. At least they are in my opinion. That is because dogs are obviously better than cats. Cats just sit around and are like feed me. I see you are home. I am going to sit on your laptop and disturb you. I am going to sit on your face as you sleep. See? Really annoying buggers. That’s cats for you. Now dogs are so much better. That is because they are like woof woof woof which means hi you’re home now I missed you I love you I am so excited to see you. Thus, entertain yourself with pets.

Bonfires in the Fall

It is again fall, as it is every year. Fall; why is it called fall? Maybe because all the leaves fall. Yes, it is probably that. The leaves are falling, and thus fall. Yes. That makes sense. In all honesty I already knew this I just am trying to make this post even longer, so sorry for anything boring in advance. But as of right now I am only about seventy or so words in, and I need a total of twelve hundred words, so I have a lot to go. Yay. This is so much fun and very entertaining. Hey, that’s a good idea; writing posts being entertaining. Post ception. Blogging ception? I am not sure as to the official ception term to use here, but I am sure that there is one. Alright, back to the topic. What is the topic again? Fall? Leaves? This blog? Ah, yes. I remember now. This blog is all about bonfires. Here, let us get back into the post. Bonfires, here we come!

Okay. It has been one hundred and seventy nine, no one hundred and eighty, and no now one hundred and ninety two words. Wow. I am booking, all though not really. Yes that should’ve been although. Alright, bonfire. Bonfires? Well, anyway, here we go. Diving right in. Bonfires here we come. Also, side note, I am just making this post really long on purpose, so have fun reading this if you are. And good for you for sticking through this post so far! So congratulations. I want to award you, to congratulate you for your dedication. I have therefore decided that you need a high five. I am not going to give you a high five. I have absolutely no idea who you are. You are probably in Mrs. Assmussen’s class with me sometime during the day. If so, then you need a high five. I am not going to give you the high five, but you should get one from someday. If you are not in her class, you still deserve a high five.

Back to bonfires! So now that it is fall, the weather is much, much, much cooler. This means that it is time for bonfires. So go to a bonfire! Have a bonfire with your friends! That can be a lot of fun. Especially if you do fun stuff with your friends. Here are some things you can do at a bonfire: you can sit around the bonfire and talk. You can listen to music. Some people have a dance party. You can have races. You can make jokes. You guys can look up funny YouTube videos. You can all get under a blanket together just because it is cold, not because it is fun or anything but because it is cold. You can also eat. Eat a lot. Like double stuffed oreos, some popcorn, or even some chips. You can also go inside and play video games together. Some fun video games to play together are on the wii, such as Mario Kart. It can be really fun. Especially with friends. Yep. So go to a bonfire with friends. Have a good time. This has been over five hundred words. To be specific, there have been almost five hundred and fifty words so far in this post. So thank you for this. For reading my post. I am sorry for putting you through this post. It has been a lot of fluff as some would call it. Just to up the word count. This will be an easy next two posts because I have only about six hundred words left. So thank you, and go entertain yourself with a bonfire!

Homeless Night

Every year, John F. Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, does a homeless night. This is in the fall, and it is not on a school night; rather, the day following Homeless night there is no school at all, which is very fortunate. Homeless Night is very fun and entertaining, and it is for a good cause. Money and empathy are both raised for homeless shelters as you donate money and you sleep in a box in front of the school for the entire night. I participated, and it was a lot of fun and for a good cause. Homeless Night is a great way to entertain yourself!

"Beverly Hills Cop I-II"

The movie Beverly Hills Cop is a very famous movie in America. It is also an iconic movie. It spawned two sequels, Beverly Hills Cop II as well as Beverly Hills Cop III. It stars Eddie Murphy as the star character, as Detroit cop Axel Foley. The movie is very entertaining, as it is a comedy action adventure movie.

Just a fair warning, this movie is a little bit racy. It is rated r and it stars Eddie Murphy, so that is to be expected. If you are easily offended and do not want to watch something inappropriate, then I recommend that you do not watch any of these films.

In the first film, Beverly Hills Cop, Eddie Murphy stars as Axel Foley, a Detroit cop. It starts with him going undercover in Detroit, only to get his bust busted by some cops unaware of him being undercover. This gets Axel in trouble with his superiors, and he is in hot water. Axel’s friend, Mickey, comes into town to visit and say hi, only to be murdered. Axel goes behind his superiors’ back and takes vacation days to be able to head to Beverly Hills, where Mickey was right before his murder. There, Axel investigates the murder of Mickey. However, Axel faces many problems. He has to face the bad guys, the group that sent to have Mickey killed, which are headed by some high end people. However, Axel also faces another big problem: he has to deal with the Beverly Hills Cop Department. The Beverly Hills’ cops are all annoyed with and quite frankly hate Axel. That is because he keeps disturbing the peace and breaking laws, as well as getting into a lot of trouble.

In the sequel, Beverly Hills Cop II, Axel once again returns to Beverly Hills. He is still a cop in Detroit, currently working undercover for a credit card bust, and hopefully a pretty big one. However, the captain that Axel worked with in Beverly Hills in the first movie was shot. He was working on the big case, and he got shot by someone who found out how close the captain was. When Axel arrives in Beverly Hills, the captain has just undergone surgery and is in critical condition, but by the end of the movie the captain is still alive (warning, that was just a spoiler). In Beverly Hills, Axel teams up with the two cops he was with in the original Beverly Hills Cop to find out who shot the captain and why.

In the first two movies, Beverly Hills Cop and Beverly Hills Cop II Axel Foley travels to Beverly Hills and teams up with some of the cops there in order to try and solve a murder or an attempted murder of someone that was close to him. Both movies are very entertaining, and they will be a good use of your time to have a good laugh and be intrigued in a great comedy action and adventure story!

Halloween Pumpkin Carving

It is that time of year again, or at least it almost is. It is starting to get colder, and the days are starting to get shorter. The leaves are falling off of trees, or at least they are starting to fall. Speaking of fall, it is now fall. Sweatshirts and long pants are now more common than just t-shirts and shorts. Bonfires are better this time of year as well due to the decrease in temperatures as of late. However, one thing that this time of year means is something that many people enjoy a lot. That one thing is Halloween.

Halloween, such a great time, right? Some people would say yes, while some people would say no. However, I think that the majority of people would side with yes rather than siding with no. Halloween entails a lot though. It entails many things. However, Halloween is far away because it is the beginning of October still, or I guess it is about halfway through October now. But still, we have seventeen days until Halloween. That is about two and a half weeks. That is quite a long time still, relatively speaking. However, some things are starting to involve Halloween already. One of those things has to do with big orange globes that we hollow out and carve, and make a decoration out of. That is right, you guessed it, and I am talking about pumpkin carving.

Pumpkin carving has been around for a long time. I believe it started with garlic, set out on the porch in hopes to scare away vampires and keep them from getting into your house. This, however, is completely silly. There is no such thing as vampires. However, people still did that. And over time it changed. It evolved into what it is today. Pumpkin carving evolved from garlic on porches to get rid of vampires and keep them from attacking your home.

Pumpkin carving today is a very enjoyable pastime in October for many people. A lot of people look forward to it. Many things can be used for pumpkin carving. In order to do a basic pumpkin carving, you will need a few supplies. First off, you will need a pumpkin. Not surprisingly, you do actually need a pumpkin in order to participate in pumpkin carving. Make sure it is not too small, and that the pumpkin isn’t too big either. It is a personal opinion on the size of the pumpkin. You will also need a knife. The knife will be used to cut and carve the pumpkin. Another useful tool in pumpkin carving is a big spoon. This will be helpful for gutting the pumpkin and taking out all of the pumpkin seeds and everything else from inside the pumpkin. If you do not want to just dump all of that onto the ground, then a bowl would be helpful to dump it in. Another item that is needed in pumpkin carving is needed for the final product. A candle is needed to be placed in the pumpkin to make it glow at night. You will typically light your carved pumpkin, also known as a Jack O’ Lantern as the finished product, on Halloween night.

Some basic ideas for carving a pumpkin are just faces. A scary face, a smiley face, those are two simple ideas. Just a nose, two eyes, and a mouth. A smiley face for a happy pumpkin, or a frowny face and angry eyes for an angry pumpkin. It is up to you. There are a lot of more ideas out there, but those are two really simple and basic ideas.

Now that it is October, I suggest getting a pumpkin and creating a Jack O’ Lantern. Pumpkin carving is very entertaining, especially if you do it with friends and/or family!

Homemade Reese's Peanut Butter Cups

Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups: a great snack, a great candy bar, and a great little treat for you. However, every single time that you crave the delicious chocolate with peanut butter in the middle in cup form, do you really want to have to drive to the closest store or gas station and pick one up? Or do you want to be able to eat something equally as good, and very simple to make? Every now and then, yes, it is nice to drive to the nearest store or gas station and pick up a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. They even come in big bags containing multiple small Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, for use for a long, extended time. However, in order to entertain yourself, you can make your own homemade version of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. In order to do that, you can just get a few simple, staple foods from your house. Here is how to do it.

Get a jar of peanut butter-creamy works best. Spoon a little bit into a small bowl-however much you want is up to you and how hungry you are and how much you’re going to eat. Then, here comes the chocolate. Put a handful of chocolate chips or break apart some chocolate bars and put them into the peanut butter-how much you want is up to you. Mix the mixture up, and eat! A great way to make a small, simple snack for you that is very tasty!

An Amazing Rack of Ribs

What does every person do every day? Every day, every person all around the world does a few of the same things. Among those things are breathing, pumping blood, drinking liquids, eating foods, and sleeping. A few of those are very entertaining things for some people, and for many different reasons. For me, one of those things is very entertaining, and that is eating.

Eating is something that can be very enjoyable, and help pass the time, and is therefore entertaining. Now, I am not trying to say to eat and eat and eat and eat, because that is just unhealthy. However, food tastes good, and I enjoy eating good tasting food, so it therefore entertains me to do so. I know that many people very much enjoy eating foods as well, and there are lots and lots and lots of different types of foods out there. There are salads, fruits, vegetables, grains, wheats, meats, and many more different kinds of foods. One of those foods that I very much enjoy is meats, but more specifically I very much enjoy eating ribs.

The other night I had a rack or so of ribs, and they were amazing. They were falling off the bone with every single bite, so much that in order to eat the ribs you had to pick up the meat separately from the bone, and the bone would just fall out in doing so. These ribs were tender. They were so flavorful too, they hit the spot.

In order to make these amazing ribs, a lot of the process is in choosing the right rack of ribs. This varies from location to location and person to person, so I am going to start with once you have the ribs. You need to peel off the membrane of the ribs, and try to leave some of the fat still on the meat for the flavor. After removing the membrane, you are to apply an Applewood smoke rub to the ribs. Apply more to the bone side of the rack of ribs, as the rub will not be as affective on that side. Then, wrap the ribs in tin foil and make sure the tin foil is so very tightly wrapped around the rack of ribs as to prevent the juices from escaping. Place the ribs in the oven for about two and half hours at about three hundred degrees temperature, and then remove the ribs from the oven. Put some barbeque sauce on the ribs and place for about five minutes on a grill with the meat side down. Take the rack of ribs off the grill after five minutes, serve, and enjoy! A great way to entertain yourself and to enjoy yourself!

"The Patriot" Historical Accuracy Movie Review

The Patriot is a movie about the American Revolution. It depicts Mel Gibson as Benjamin Martin, a patriot who leads a militia in South Carolina against the British troops. While the movie The Patriot had a few similarities to the actual American Revolution, the majority of the movie was vastly different than what actually occurred during the Revolutionary War, such as the characters and the interpretation of the British.

The main similarity that was in The Patriot was in relation to the Revolutionary War as a whole itself. That similarity is guerilla warfare that the colonists used. In the movie, the British are depicted as fighting as gentlemen-they would line up and march at each other while shooting at each other in straight lines. Also in the movie, the British troops had drummers, and multiple rows of troops to fire, as they were well trained. The colonists in the movie, however, did not continue fighting in that gentlemen style. They turned to guerilla warfare. In the movie, the militia under Benjamin Martin uses guerilla warfare in South Carolina against the British troops. In doing so, the colonists were able to become highly successful and they were able to win many battles with the use of guerilla warfare.

There were also many differences. The characters, for starters, were vastly different than what actually happened in the American Revolution. Benjamin Martin was loosely based around Francis Marion, aka the Swamp Fox. The movie portrayed Benjamin Martin as feeling so guilt struck from what he did during the French and Indian War, and the guilt is practically eating him all up inside. He enlists to fight with America only out of anger of his son being brutally murdered by a British soldier. He leads a militia group in Southern Carolina. This is very different from Francis Marion. Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox, is often said to be much, much worse. He was accused of committing even worse atrocities than those perpetrated by British soldiers, and he was also accused of being a serial rapist. Overall, not a very good person. This is a direct conflict with the movie, as the movie portrays Benjamin Martin as the good guy, as the guy that you root for. The movie did get correct, however, that Francis Martin did lead a militia group in South Carolina, thus the name Swamp Fox.

Another big difference between the movie and the actual events of the American Revolution was the British. The movie interpreted them differently than they actually were during the Revolutionary War. In the movie they were portrayed as horrible people. They murdered innocent children, innocent people, burnt down houses, and at one point in the movie they even gathered an entire town into a church and burned the church down, with all the people inside. These are horrible things. However, the British were not that bad. The movie portrayed them basically as Nazis-because Nazis committed those horrible acts, while the British did not. The British, yes, in our eyes were the bad guys in the Revolutionary War. However, they did not commit the horrible atrocities that The Patriot had them doing.

Therefore, as The Patriot was a very entertaining movie, it did not have a lot of historical accuracy for the American Revolution.

Friendly Pranks

Friends are close, they have fun together, and they can get on each other's nerves. Some things that friends do together are hang out, going places together, such as a football game, a sports game, a concert, or some other place. Sometimes friends do the same sports, so they are together during that sport. Or even during an activity, like speech or show choir. However, outside of those activities, friends are always doing something together it seems. Whether it being a road trip, playing games, having a bonfire, having a grill out, or even a grill out, friends tend to be together. They get into a good relationship, and they can sometimes razz each other. One way that friends razz each other is via pranks.
However, when pranking, friends must be smart. They need to remember not to do anything illegal, harmful, or anything too bad that can be taken the wrong way. Also, only do pranks to good enough friends that can take it with a laugh and will have a good time with it. I know a few friends who did a prank to someone who took it the wrong way. Long story short, only prank your friends. Some fun prank ideas to do towards your friends are to TP their house, shrink wrap their car, ding dong ditch them, write on their windows with a marker made for that, and there are so many more things to do. Always remember though, while all of that is very fun, do not do anything dangerous, illegal, or harmful, and you will have a great time!

"Nice People"

The theatre is a big thing now a days. Many people go to the theatre. Some people travel to New York to see a Broadway production. Some to other big cities such as Chicago. Some people will even travel out of the United States of America-to a whole other country. To London, to Paris, or even somewhere else to see the theatre and some theatre production there. That being said, the theatre is very prominent in our everyday lives today, whether we realize it or not. We all know someone or some people that are very into the theatre, and the theatre is just increasing with its popularity with each passing day and each passing minute.

This past weekend, Kennedy High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, had a play. It was entitled “Nice People” and it was written by a Kennedy alum, Alosha Robinson. It was about working people who, contrary to the title of the play, are not very nice. They cheat on each other, get angry with each other, tell secrets, and even hire a hobo to fake an attempt at someone’s life. It seems as if the play has it all. It was a comical play, and Kennedy High School’s production of “Nice People” was the very first time ever that “Nice People” appeared on stage. Due to the nature of the play, as well as the jokes, references, and other aspects, the play had a content rating of being pg13. However, it was still a very entertaining play. It produced a lot of laughs from the audience and kept everyone enthralled. The play was a shorter one, lasting only about one hundred or so minutes total, which includes a fifteen minute intermission.

I recommend seeing this play. It is being played one last time at Kennedy High School this Thursday, October eighth. Fair warning, it can be a little inappropriate with some sexual references and some language and crude dialogue. However, if you are okay with that, then the play is a must see. It will keep you laughing and entertained. All of the actors and actresses did really well at their parts, with many parts ranging from a “whore” as she was called in the play to a love struck goody girl, and from a hobo to a cheating rich husband to a very well-intentioned man. The character development seemed pretty good, and the whole play flowed pretty well. It kept moving, and there was hardly a dull spot in the entire play. I highly recommend seeing “Nice People”!

Friends are Better than the Internet

As the world turns, another day goes by, another week, another month, another year, another decade, and soon another century. Even though we might not still be alive by the turn of the century, a lot will change. A lot will continue to change with each passing century. Just think about it, just one hundred years ago there were no computers, there was no internet, and there was no television. Those items, those things, that of which we interact with every day, that of which we use to entertain ourselves almost every day, it did not exist one hundred years ago. Right now, what are you doing? Reading this blog. How are you reading this article? Well, this blog is on the internet. That means that somehow you are surfing the web, browsing the internet. A smartphone possibly? A tablet? A computer? A laptop? What type, too? An IPhone or an Android? An IPad or a Microsoft Surface? A Dell or a Mac? A Chromebook or a MacBook? Or are you reading this article while using some other electronic device that you choose to browse the internet with? Whatever the case, the fact still remains that you are browsing the internet, reading this blog. However you came to this blog, I am not sure, but you are here now. It is very likely that you did not choose to read this blog, and that you somehow happens upon it while on the internet. In that case, I must ask you a very pressing question: Why?

I do not mean that why in a bad way; I love that fact that you are reading my blog. However, the question remains. Why? Why are you reading this blog-my blog? Why are you on the internet? Why are you not interacting with others? Why are you not socializing? Playing with friends? Making memories? Doing something fun and exciting that you will remember down the road? The answer, however, does not appear to matter at the moment. That is because you are still here, still reading this blog. Why? Why are you reading this blog? It could very possibly be that the reason that you are still here reading my blog has nothing to do with the content of my blog at all, and that it could have everything to do with the way that you are reading my blog. This poses another question: Is the internet really that addicting? Are you really just reading this blog just because it is on the internet?

I hope you are not. I hope that you are not just reading my blog because it is on the internet. However, it seems that now a days many people are addicted to the internet and cannot get away from it. That they feel like they need the internet. That they cannot be away from it, and thus they cannot be away from their electronic device or electronic devices. In which case, I must ask another question: What happened? When talking to my parents and all the memories that they have, all the best memories from their childhood was with their friends. Doing things together. Having fun. Staying active. Being kids. Playing. Don’t get me wrong, the internet can be great-I am posting this blog on the internet after all. However, I must be clear on my message. Go out and play. Hang with your friends. Have a fun time. Be active. Have fun together. Make some new, lasting memories that you will never forget, instead of just surfing the internet, because in a few years you won’t be able to remember that tweet or that post, but you will be able to look back on the memories that you made and the friends that you had and you will be able to smile.
