Football-State

Football is a wonderful sport, and many would agree. It is played at many levels. Some kids play it at a very young age, starting as young as in elementary school, or even in preschool. At that time kids play it as a game for fun, rather for sport or for intensity, but rather because they enjoy it. It will usually start off as backyard games with friends at a young age, and with young kids it will usually start at two hand touch, flag football, then tackle football. In Cedar Rapids, at least, kids can start playing tackle football in the fourth grade. By that I mean the tackle football with all the pads that the players, the kids, wear, with coaches, who are usually volunteers. All in all that is usually a good experience, and pretty fun, for the kids. Then things start getting more and more intense. For those kids in the fourth grade, in the fifth grade, and in the sixth grade, they can play tackle football through Metro. It is called Metro tackle football. It is based on high school that the kids are planning on attending, so for example there will be a fourth grade Kennedy Metro Tackle Football team, a fifth grade Kennedy Metro tackle football team, and a sixth grade Kennedy Metro tackle football team. There may be many Kennedy Metro tackle football teams for each grade as well. If there are a lot of kids who are trying to play tackle football via Metro, then there will be multiple teams. For instance, if there are enough kids to warrant three sixth grade Kennedy Metro tackle football teams, then there would be a sixth grade Kennedy White tackle football team, a sixth grade Kennedy Green tackle football team, and a sixth grade Kennedy Gold tackle football team. Then for grades seven and eight, in middle school, you can play tackle football for your middle school. Then comes high school. There is a freshman football team at the high school level, composed of the freshmen that go out for football for that year. There is also a sophomore football team at the high school level, composed of the sophomores that go out for football that year. Then there is the varsity football team. That is mainly composed of the juniors and seniors who go out for football for that year, and it includes both the varsity team and the junior varsity team. The varsity team is what I am going to write about.

This year, Kennedy's Varsity Football team has done extraordinarily well. They have set a new record-they are undefeated right now and have already won two playoff games! That is amazing! We currently have only one more playoff game to play at Kingston, and that is this Friday night against Washington. That game will be a good one. We already played them, and it was a close game, yet we still beat them. Let us hope that we will beat them again. After Kennedy wins that game Friday night, we will be playing up at the UNI (University of Northern Iowa) Dome. That is pretty cool and would be a lot of fun to see. If we win that game, then we play another game at the UNI Dome: the state playoffs. That game is for the state championship. If we win it, then we win state. Go Cougs!
